Philosophy

I have a somewhat unusual approach to photography and sales, owing mostly to the fact that I’m (a) a pretty simple guy and (b) a cheapskate. Not in the negative sense, but I just like to get a good value and really don’t like paying for things I don’t want. Consequently, I don’t really offer a bunch of package choices. They inevitably mean you’re paying for stuff you don’t want, right?

So what I do is offer one package per type of job (sports are different from weddings, which are different from portrait sessions, etc.) and then anything else you want is available a la carte from my website. You order what you want; nothing more, nothing less.

Portraits

For portrait sessions — family, pet, engagement, seniors, glamour — I charge $250. The shoots may be on-location or in-studio, as you prefer. Ten large edited digital photos (photographer’s choice) are included and then everything else follows the a la carte model. Turnaround time is generally 3-4 days for the online proofs.

Sports

To cover sporting events, whether youth or adult, there’s a $250 fee. I don’t mind if you want to split the fee with one other parent/athlete, but I’ll need to know which athletes to cover. Once shot, the photos may be ordered via the web site at the sizes you choose, with ten large digital images included in the price.

Weddings

My base charge for weddings is $2400. You’ll receive digital copies of all photos (typically 500+) that are large enough to use for smaller prints, and I’ll include substantial discounts for any prints you order from my web site. Although my site doesn’t offer books, I’ll be happy to work with you to ensure your wedding album needs are met, at virtually any budget.

There are many options we can discuss to customize your wedding experience. Add a second photographer…add $500. Destination wedding…cover my expenses but deduct $500. Get ahold of me and we’ll get the conversation rolling!

As a bonus, I should mention that anyone booking a wedding will receive a discount on the cost of their engagement, boudoir and/or trash the dress sessions. Those are all normally billed as $250 portrait sessions, but will be discounted to $100 when also booking a wedding.

Anything Else?

Most everything else falls under a catch-all rate of $85 per hour. Event coverage, food photography, product shots…these are all billed hourly.

I lose business from time to time because of my lack of package choices, but it seems to rub a lot of people the right way…and I feel good about it. If you think you have a unique situation, I’d be happy to discuss it with you.
